Kinja'd!!!

Hello all! Tonight’s Dream Garage was created by NGMalanga, and it’s terrific! Check it out: You must pick a vehicle that is model year 2015 or newer (yes, you can pick CONFIRMED upcoming production vehicles) . Once you have that model picked, you must choose one of its predecessors as your second vehicle.

Now to take this up one more notch I’ll add in one rule; the predecessor to whatever new model you choose may not exceed 1/4 of the price of the new model . So if you like a new car that costs $100,000, then whatever generation/predecessor you choose must not exceed $25,000 buying preowned today.

This should be interesting since “predecessor-successor” can be interpreted many ways. Since this one will be a lot of fun, I’ll cap this at two pairs, so no more than FOUR vehicles total!

Don’t forget to thank NGMalanga, and enjoy yo’selves!

would F-type/E-type or GT86/AE86 be acceptable? How liberally are you defining predecessor?

Wouldn’t an E-type be way too expensive to fit in the budget?. I was thinking i8 and M1 until I saw the budget requirements.

I’ll start with a fully loaded 2015 Accord V6 HFP coupe (manual, of course) to DD. Roughly $30k, no hideous chrome nose like the 2016+s have. Although I’d have mine in San Marino Red, this black one is nice.

Kinja'd!!!

For the predecessor I’ll go with a JDM 6th gen Euro-R, which you can find for $7500 all day. Just have to wait 9 more years to import one. 220 HP, Torsen LSD, and from what I hear, a blast to drive.

That’s completely up to you actually! That’s why I opened it up to two pairs, that way you can go by marketed, spiritual, or nameplate successor. I’d even let someone argue a Malibu to a Chevelle if they found one for 1/4 the price.

Yeah, without the budget requirement this would be nothing but Porsches, GTRs, Ford GTs, Ferraris, Lambos, McLarens...pretty much the “best” stuff.

This vehicle just barely makes the cut!! Skin of the teeth is how close this one is. Awesome job, I didn’t think anyone would catch it!

I checked, and 25% of $150,000 is $37,500, which is basically exactly what the pre-facelift NSXs command.

No budget: i8 and M1

With budget: M2 and 2002tii.

It’ll need to be a not-perfect 2002tii, but there are plenty listed for under $12k.

New high country what the fuck ever Silverado 2500HD with all the options except the dually rear axle.

The best C/10 ~$17,000 can buy. 350 with a stick preferably will settle for straight 6.

A Lotus Evora 400 for $96,000

A Lotus Europa (both small GT cars)project with the rest of the money in rebuilding it.

All the bases covered. Luxury vehicle, truck, sports car, madness.

Ha, actually you can top out the new cars since it doesn’t change the cars. That actually helps open up certain Nissans, Porsches, Lamborghinis, and other exotics. So your 2017 NSX can be $200k and you can find a $50k 1st gen.

Now I kind of wonder if everyone could only pick two cars from the top group, what would the most popular combination be?

Don’t worry, no need to apologise.

I guess I’d prefer the Merc combo since it covers a wider range, and it would probably be more popular with the average opponaut too.

The Hondas work well as a side dish or something.

For my second set, I’ll do something really offbeat.
